Generic Drugs - Coercion, Diversionary camouflage, plain stupidity or arrogance, or ANOTHER MONEY SPINNER like the diktat on PUBLICATIONS BASED PROMOTIONS?

Respected Seniors and Officials
If Bioavailability of a particular drug can be correlated with respect to its cost in the form of a Bioavailability : Cost ratio, then the choice of prescription of a drug with a higher value of the ratio becomes an automatic prerogative of the Practitioners. I fail to understand what all the fuss about Generic vs Branded is all about. Is an end-of-chain Practitioner responsible for the Bioavailability of Drugs manufactured and finally its packaging and pricing? The whole tone of the campaign, to instruct Practitioners to prescribe Generic drugs, has veered towards trying to paint Practitioners of Medicine as Practitioners of Greed and Crime. We Doctors are not the villains, there is a whole system out there that needs cleaning up before fingers are raised at Doctors.
No Patient would like to settle for a drug with less Cost : Benefit ratio, if given a choice and if within means of affordability. Focus on current Indian Healthcare Business must be on rectification of certain basic issues like improving the Indian Medical Education Standards. For all ills plaguing the System, fine tuning of Education is the only answer.
Such instructions on how to prescribe and what to prescribe should have been taught effectively during the 5 1/2 years of MBBS and Internship, not now in this manner appearing coercive. No use in shutting the doors of the stable after the horses have bolted. Doesn't bringing out such repeated instructions to Doctors, in some form or other, point to basic failure of the past and ongoing present Education System? How is the Government approaching this major misgovernance of Indian Medical Education Standards over a decade?

(Opinions are mine, not my employers)

Bioavailability as a concept is explained in this Wiki page with subject references

The part about Publications for Promotions, in the title, is explained here.

No Regulatory Body and no Politicians in position of power over such bodies are addressing the real issue of cleaning up the ROT in Indian Medical Education which has been converted into a BUSINESS INDUSTRY and directly responsible for the abysmal standards of Indian Healthcare.

Just diverting public attention from decades of misgovernance and making noises when Elections are around the corner is the real ground reality.
